Military Guns
What is an
"Assault Rifle?":
According to the
Department of Defense "assault rifles"
are "short, compact, selective-fire weapons
that fire a cartridge intermediate in power
between sub-machine
gun and rifle cartridges." Their
characterized distinction is based on weight,
to a lesser degree, power and the immediate
ability by virtue of a selector switch to fire
fully automatic. As such they are already regulated
under the National Firearms Act of 1934.

What is required
to lawfully possess a full automatic?
Federal
law prohibits the transfer and possession of
any such fully
automatic firearm, which includes an
AK-47,
not lawfully possessed prior to
May 19, 1986. Those held prior to that
date may be transferred to individuals
licensed to possess same who, for each
gun purchased, pass a federal record
check (which usually takes 90 days),
pay a $200.00 transfer tax, are finger
printed and secure a sign-off from their
local police.

What does the
"06" mean in a 30-06 round?
Of course the
30 is for .30 caliber.... the "06",
stands for the year the round was introduced.
The 30-06 round first appeared in 1906

M61A1 "Vulcan" 20mm
cannon

The M61A1 Vulcan cannon is
a six-barrel 20mm gun capable of firing
6,000 rounds per minute. Its operation
is based upon the principle used in the
rapid-firing gun invented by Richard J.
Gatling in the 1860s. The six rotating
barrels, firing one at a time, permit
a high rate of fire while at the same
time reducing the problem of barrel wear
and heat generation. The gun can be driven
electrically, hydraulically, or by a ram-air
turbine. In the F16 it is hydraulically
driven. The Vulcan has equipped such USAF
aircraft as the F-104, F-105B/D/F, F-15,
F-16, A-7D, F-111A, F-4E, B-58, and B-52H.
